Residential Septic Services

We recommend that you have your residential septic serviced once every 3 – 5 years, depending on usage in your home. Regular maintenance of your septic system will help reduce your chances of a system failure, help your system perform more efficiently,

Common warning signs before a system failure results:

Here’s how septic systems work and why regular maintenance is important:

As your system is used, solids settle to the bottom of the tank, forming a sludge layer. Other materials like grease float to the surface of the septic tank and form a “scum” layer on the top. Tanks are designed to handle up to 3-5 years of accumulation of sludge. When the sludge level increases beyond this point, incoming sewage into the system has less space, less time, to settle properly before seeping out of the system. As the sludge layer increases, more solid waste escapes into the soil absorption system. If this becomes clogged, it cannot absorb liquid properly ate the rate it enters the system and will then cause a back-up and your septic field to become very wet.

Regular pumping helps prevent solids from escaping into the drainfield and clogging soil pores. While pumping frequency is a function of use, Bouse House recommends that systems be pumped at least once every 3 years for homes not having a garbage disposal. If the home’s system has a garbage disposal, it should be pumped every year.
